Book Review: Just Friends (Blue Beech #6) by Charity Ferrell

Updated: Mar 29, 2022

A quick synopsis of this book:

Carolina and Rex, two very different people, become unexpected friends in high school. They never realized how close they would get.

My overall rating of this book is 3.5/5 stars. I liked the dynamic between Carolina and Rex and their relationship through the years. They both were complex and throughout the story we see each of them evolve. The story is told in dual perspective so we follow both Carolina and Rex and get to see how each felt about the other and the situations they were in.

My major issue with this book was that I felt that there were too many time jumps, especially at the beginning. I wouldn't have minded the book being a little longer if it meant we could see more of Carolina and Rex when they first became friends. We got a few moments of it and then suddenly they are part of the way through college. I understand why the author wanted to cover a large amount of time, but I feel like to fully connect to both of the characters and to really see how their friendship started, it would have allowed a better understanding of their relationship and the moments they shared.

However, if you like friends to lovers and lots of smut then this book would be right up your alley.

CW: Graphic sex scenes, loss of virginity, mentions of a toxic relationship
